Proposed ISNA Bylaws Changes are Coming in Two Waves

With contributions from the ISNA Bylaws Committee, ISNA Nominations & Elections Committee, ISNA Board of Directors, and ISNA staff there are a large quantity of proposed changes to the ISNA Bylaws this year. Pursuant to ISNA Bylaws Article XV: “Bylaws may be amended at any annual or special meeting of the ISNA by a two-thirds vote of those participating, provided notice shall have been sent to all members at least thirty (30) days prior to the annual or special meeting. These Bylaws except for Purposes, Functions, and Dues may be amended by the ISNA Board of Directors by a two-thirds vote, provided notice has been sent to all members at least thirty (30) days prior to the board meeting.”
 
The proposed bylaws changes are divided into two waves:

• Wave 1: new requirements from ANA for CSNA bylaws and clarifications/updates for outdated language
• Wave 2: adding LPN Associate Membership and implementing staggered ISNA elections

Wave 1 is more administerial, whereas Wave 2 is more substantive. Wave 1 will go to the ISNA Board of Directors for a vote at their meeting on September 2nd. Wave 2 will be voted on at our Annual Meeting on September 16th, with a possibility for voting online shortly before the event. This will allow for more time at the Annual Meeting to be spent on the substantive proposals. 
 
Both Waves will go through a separate comment period to provide members an opportunity to suggest changes before the content is locked in for a yes/no vote at their respective meetings. The timeline is:

• July 28 MyISNA & July 29  ISNAbler – Wave 1 proposed changes sent to membership for comment. Deadline for comments is August 2.
• August 3 Direct Email – Final Wave 1 proposed bylaws changes sent to membership, to be voted on at September 2 ISNA Board of Directors meeting
• August 4 MyISNA & August 5 ISNAbler – Wave 2 proposed changes sent to membership for comment. Deadline for comments is August 15.
• August 17 Direct Email – Final Wave 2 proposed bylaws changes sent to membership, with notice they will be voted on at the Annual Meeting on Sept. 16th, with online voting available before the event for those unable to attend

Submit any comments you have regarding the Wave 1 changes via this comment submission form, by August 2.
